Eggy Goes On With Show As Trio At Tree House Brewing After Drummer Injured In Car Accident

27

Eggy moved forward with their show on Saturday at Tree House Brewing Company as an acoustic trio after drummer Alex Bailey was hurt in a car accident the previous night. Bailey’s bandmates — guitarist Jake Brownstein, bassist Mike Goodman and keyboardist Dani Battat — took the stage under the “Egg” moniker for a pair of five-song sets at the brewery in Deerfield, Massachusetts.

Bailey was hospitalized following a head-on collision in which a distracted driver entered his lane on Friday as per a social media post from Eggy. “We are so happy he is home safe and on the mend, but it’s time for some much needed rest,” Alex’s bandmates added in the pre-show note that also included the sage advice “Don’t text while driving.”

“Egg” kicked off the intimate, unplugged performance on Saturday with year-old original “Farthest Step” and an extended “Wireless.” The three-piece then tacked an adventurous jam into a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Carry On” before a performance of live staple “Today And Tomorrow.” Brownstein, Goodman and Battat wrapped their first set at Tree House Brewing with the Hunter/Garcia classic “Cats Under The Stars.”

The band was “In It For The Ride” by launching the second set with a 23-minute version of the song from their 2019 studio album Watercolor Days. Brownstein took a moment to ask the crowd to send their love to Alex after “In It For The Ride.” Watch the beautiful moment below:

It was then back to the CSN repertoire for a well-jammed “Southern Cross” that included teases of Phish’s “Julius.” Next, “Fly Frederick Fly” soared complete with a “Cats Under The Stars” verse ahead of a “Tom Corn Walker”/”Watercolor Days” pairing to end the frame and unusual show.

“While Alex was greatly missed yesterday, we were grateful to share in such a special evening with everybody and send some love to him back home,” wrote Eggy after Saturday’s show in a post accompanying the video above. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the well wishes and love you showed Alex yesterday. While he still has some healing to do, I know each comment, text, and phone call made a real difference. Thank you for lifting his spirits and ours.”
