Greensky Bluegrass took on the Empire State with a recent run of four shows spanning Buffalo, Port Chester, and Utica, New York. The run was highlighted by a two-night stand at The Capitol Theatre featuring appearances from Neighbor frontman Lyle Brewer and Twiddle‘s Mihali Savoulidis.
Greensky began the weekend at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom, where Anders Beck reminisced with the crowd about the birth of “Casual Wednesday” that took place in Buffalo in 2014. The band then played the song despite it being a Thursday, with Beck exclaiming, “This Thursday in Buffalo is definitely the best Casual Wednesday of my life!” The show also featured a couple relatively rare covers, including “The Wind Cries Mary” by Jimi Hendrix and “When Doves Cry” by Prince.
Next came two nights at The Capitol Theatre with support from Boston upstarts Neighbor on Friday the 13th and Twiddle frontman Mihali the following night. Each show featured a notable sit-in from that night’s opener, with Neighbor guitarist Lyle Brewer joining Greensky at the end of the first set for the title track to the band’s recent album, Stress Dreams, and a cover of Derek & The Dominos‘ “Keep On Growing”, and Mihali following suit during the second set on Saturday, sitting in on “What You Need” and Cannon’s Jug Stompers‘ “Big Railroad Blues”.
Greensky Bluegrass wrapped up the New York run on Sunday with the band’s first-ever concert in Utica, NY at The Stanley. The show featured a cover of The Beatles‘ “A Day In The Life”, not played since the summer of 2021.
