King Khan Readies Spiritual Jazz Album ‘The Nature Of Things’ & Shares Malcolm X Tribute Track

19

King Khan detailed a new spiritual jazz album, The Nature Of Things, which will be released on March 10 through Khannibalism/Ernest Jenning Record Co. Khan previewed his second jazz album with the Malcolm X tribute lead single “Snarlin’ Lil Malcolm.”

“This song is a tribute to one of my biggest heroes of all time, Malcolm X,” Khan stated. “When I first wrote this song I wanted to make a free jazz tribute to Malcolm X because of the profound transformation he showed in his life, which ended so tragically. His revolutionary words still ring true to this day. The Nature of Things LP is dedicated to all those folks out there trying their best to fight for environmental peace and justice. Humanity is on its last legs and in these dire times one must always remember Malcolm’s words… ‘When the ‘I’ is replaced by ‘We,’ even ‘illness’ becomes ‘wellness.’”

The nine-song The Nature Of Things takes its title from the David Suzuki-hosted nature television show Khan watched as a child. The Berlin-based Khan, who has helmed such rock outfits as King Khan & The Shrines and The King Khan & BBQ Show, issued his first jazz album The Infinite Ones in 2020. For the follow-up, Khan was accompanied by John Convertino of Calexico on drums, percussion and marimba; Alex White of Fat White Family on saxophone and flute; Torben Wesche of King Khan and The Shrines on saxophone, Davide Zolli of Mojomatics on percussion, Maureen Buscareno on harp and Brontez Purnell of Younger Lovers on drums and percussion.

“Snarlin’ Lil Malcolm” was recorded by Khan on Astro-Infinity bass, Wesche on tenor and baritone saxophones, Convertino on drums and percussion and Zoilli on drums. Listen to the Malcolm X tribute track below:
