Modest Mouse Drummer Jeremiah Green Dead At 45

79

Founding Modest Mouse drummer Jeremiah Green died on Saturday following a recently announced battle with cancer. He was 45.

The drummer’s death was confirmed in a post to the band’s social media which stated, “I don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah. He laid down to rest and simply faded out.

“I’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time,” the post continued. “These will come later, and from many people. Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love. We love you.”

This news comes a week after Green’s cancer became public following a post from his mother, later confirmed by the band. Green’s mom, Carol Namatame, announced on Christmas that her son was battling stage four cancer, with Modest Mouse co-founding frontman Isaac Brock writing that treatment was “making a positive difference.”

Green, Brock, and bassist Eric Judy formed Modest Mouse in 1992 in Issaquah, WA. Green served alongside Brock as the group’s second-longest tenured member, remaining a permanent fixture in the lineup aside from a brief gap in 2003–2004. He appeared on all seven of the band’s albums aside from 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News, which contained the breakthrough hits “Float On” and “Ocean Breathes Salty”. The group’s seventh and most recent album, The Golden Casket, arrived last year.
