Start Making Sense has been touring the country for over a decade sharing the music of the Talking Heads to enthusiastic audiences. While they have adhered to a strict and reverent recreation of that influential band’s catalog, Start Making Sense have also figured out ways to keep the show vibrant and entertaining, even for fans who have seen them many times.
Over the years they have toyed with the lineup, have done recreations of the famed Stop Making Sense movie replete with sets painstakingly curated down to the finest details, and also recreated the set list of the famed Paris show. But in the Spring of 2022, Start Making Sense brought it to a new level by touring to eight cities with a horn section that was then dubbed the Immaculate Horns.
The band didn’t just focus on material that was horn driven by the Talking Heads. They re-interpreted and re-imagined the catalog by scoring three hours of music for horn, most of which did not have horn parts initially. In addition to Talking Heads material, they also incorporated adjacent material from David Byrne, St Vincent, and even songs that somehow tangentially tied into the catalog in perhaps a not so apparent fashion.
In the Spring of 2023 Start Making Sense will be heading out again for an eight city tour with a horn setion, who are now known as the Ocean Ave Stompers.

To be sure there will be plenty of tour dates for Start Making Sense in their traditional lineup too. The band takes a traditional early winter break and hits hard in March. 2023 features two cool new rooms including an opera house in Connecticut and the famed Asbury Hall in Buffalo NY which will be brought to you by our good friends from the team who run the Buffalo Iron Works.
