Spafford swung by Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on Friday. The Arizona quartet unveiled a new original, “Shelter In Place,” to kick off the second set.
Spafford got the show underway with a trio of staple originals: “The Remedy,” “Leave The Light On” and “The Postman.” The first cover of the evening came in the form of The Presidents Of The United States Of America’s “Peaches.” Spaff wrapped the first frame with “Windmill.”
Spafford launched the second set with the debut of “Shelter In Place.” The band — bassist Jordan Fairless, guitarist Brian Moss, drummer Nick Tkachyk and new keyboardist Cory Schechtman — dropped into the song’s vibey intro before Moss led the group through the lyrics. The quartet took the tune for a substantial ride at nearly 15 minutes.
Next, Spafford flowed seamlessly into another new tune, “Left On The Runway,” which appears on their 2022 album Simple Mysteries, before pairing up “Walls” and “Virtual Bean Dip.” The band then delivered a cover of Men At Work’s “Who Can It Be Now” for just the sixth time since the song’s debut in early 2020. “Weasel” brought the second set to a close ahead of a two-song encore consisting of “Space Gadget” and “Fünkenseven.”
