In 2007, Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard and Czech musician Marketa Irglova starred in the feature film Once. The Swell Season bandmates will reunite for a tour in celebration of the movie’s 15th anniversary.
The Swell Season’s self-titled debut album came out in 2006. The duo was bolstered by the critical acclaim garnered by Once, which showcased their original songs. A second album, Strict Joy, was issued in 2009 and remains their most recent full-length release. Hansard and Irglová performed together last year, marking the first The Swell Season performances in 10 years.
The Swell Season’s upcoming tour celebrating the 15th anniversary of Once begins August 8 in Nashville. The tour continues throughout August, with stops in Atlanta, Boston, New York, Durham (North Carolina), Washington D.C., Grand Rapids (Michigan), Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, Woodinville (Washington), Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Venues for the Grand Rapids, Salt Lake City and Woodinville shows will be revealed at a later date.
