Skateboarding icon Tony Hawk “dropped in” to a Goldfinger concert over the weekend, joining the band for its hit track “Superman”. The ska classic appeared on the soundtrack for the original 1999 Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video game and has become synonymous with the franchise over the ensuing two-plus decades.

Introduced by Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann as “Mr. Tony Fucking Hawk,” Birdman took the stage to thunderous applause on Saturday in Anaheim, CA. While the 54-year-old skateboarding poster boy is more adept on a board than on a stage, his sit-in is nonetheless still the ultimate “special trick.” In addition to introducing kids around the world to skateboarding in one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater also introduced the equally important soundtrack of skater music including punk, metal, and ska.

“That song has defined our video game series for decades and it’s been an honor to finally join these guys for it,” Hawk said following his performance. “Thanks everybody. Keep skating. Do a kickflip!”

This is far from Hawk’s first foray into music, with the entrepreneur popping up in London over the summer to sit in with THPS cover band The 900 for songs by Agent Orange and, of course, Goldfinger. Last year he also teamed up with Millencolin to star in a retro music video for “No Cigar” (which appeared on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2) inspired by gameplay from the series.
