Cycles recently reached into the vault for a cover of “One Of These Days” by Pink Floyd featuring members of Dopapod. The take on the Meddle classic comes from the Denver prog-rock power trio’s November 17th, 2022 show opening for Dopapod at Brooklyn Bowl.
Midway through Cycles’ opening set, guitarist Rob Compa, keyboardist Eli Winderman, and drummer Neal “Fro” Evans emerge from the wings. Newly minted bassist Lucas Parker, who replaced founding member Tucker McClung earlier this year, informs the crowd that this was the band’s last of seven shows opening for Dopapod on the band’s fall tour. In addition to Cycles, the October–November jaunt saw support from Chalk Dinosaur, Lunar Tricks, Three Star Revival, Strange Machines, and more.

The added instrumentation further bolsters Cycles’ already dense sound. The anticipation of the intro builds and builds until Fro steps away from his un-miked drum kit to improvise heavily-filtered lyrics for the instrumental song, “One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces.” From there, the expanded five-piece tears through the track with Compa and Cycles guitarist Patrick Harvey duking it out as Winderman sends the cover into hyperspace.
