Jack Johnson detailed a new remix album reimagining some of his most well-known songs. In Between Dub is set to arrive on June 2 via Brushfire/ Republic Records and is previewed by the single Traffic In The Sky recreated by the late Lee “Scratch” Perry.
While reggae great Lee “Scratch” Perry passed away on August 29, 2021, In Between Dub has been in the works for three years. Johnson reached out to Perry in early 2020 to do the record, but the pandemic pause put things on hold until 2021 when Lee “Scratch” Perry began working on the remixes in his native jamaica. Johnson and Perry later connected in Johnson’s home of Hawaii as the record continued to take shape.
“Growing up in Hawai’i with reggae music always on the radio, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry was a living Legend,” Johnson said. “When I found out he was up for remixing a few of my songs I was blown away. The remixes evolved and he ended up adding his voice to my songs. It was like he had done a magic trick to the music. I will be forever grateful for the time, love, and energy that Lee “Scratch” Perry put into this project.”
Although Perry passed away in August 2022, Jack continued to work with Lee’s band Subatomic Sound System to finish the record. Preview In Between Dub with “Traffic In The Sky” below:
