Legendary guitarist Leo Nocentelli will make a number of appearances during New Orleans Jazz Fest 2023. Nocentelli will perform solo at Jazz Fest, two The Meters Experience shows at Zony Mash and more.

Nocentelli, a co-founding member of influential New Orleans funk band The Meters, finally released his acclaimed solo album, Another Side. The NOLA native recorded the folk album in his hometown at Cosimo Matassa’s Jazz City Studio between 1970 and 1972. Nocentelli’s solo album went unreleased until the Light In The Attic record label issued it in November 2021.

Nocentelli will perform songs from Another Side, as well as The Meters funk classics during his April 29 set at the 2023 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

The two The Meters Experience shows will see Nocentelli performing for the first time alongside former The Meters keyboardist David Batiste and his son, Russell Batiste who was the funky Meters drummer for 22 years (and is a member of Phish keyboardist Page McConnell’s side project Vida Blue). Part of this year’s Funky Uncle Jazz Fest series, the pair of The Meters Experience concerts will be held on April 28 and April 29 at Zony Mash Beer Project. Tickets are available now.

Nocentelli’s performances in Experiencing the Meters are part of 8 nights of shows supporting New Orleans homeless through charities Grace at the Green Light and Positive Legacy. These shows are promoted by The Funky Uncle, a New Orleans charity who has since April 3, 2020 raised over $850,000 to support 900 plus musicians and gig workers. See www.thefunkyuncle.live. The charities will also be providing New Orleans homeless with free tickets to Jazz Fest along with transportation and a monetary stipend for the day.
