Nature + Music: Fort Desolation Music & Adventure Travel Festival To Host Ben Harper, Shakey Graves, More

In a world inundated with countless music festivals, it can be a challenge for promoters to find ways to differentiate their events from the competition. That has never been a problem for Fort Desolation Music & Adventure Travel Festival, set to take place on June 8th–10th in scenic Torrey, UT. Part music festival, part nature retreat, part outdoor adventure travel expo, Fort Desolation Fest offers a unique combination of experiences that make it the ideal festival for those looking to get out in nature and enjoy world-class performances with a community of likeminded adventurers.

This year’s Fort Desolation Fest lineup includes festival favorites like Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Shakey Graves, The White Buffalo, Morgan Wade, Houndmouth, Jamestown Revival, Madison Cunningham, The Brothers Comatose, Parker Millsap, and Pixie & The Partygrass Boys. All of the music takes place at night, giving attendees time during the day to explore the magnificent natural scenery of nearby Capitol Reef National Park, one of Utah’s “Mighty Five” national parks. Festivalgoers can go hiking, fly-fishing, cycling, off-roading, and more and then return to the festival grounds to reenergize with exhilarating musical performances in the red rocks of Cougar Ridge Resort.

Fort Desolation Fest attendees will also be able to stick around during the day for the onsite adventure travel expo, where, each day, top brands will showcase their latest products for vehicle-supported adventure travelers, from ruggedized travel trailers and campfire cooking equipment to car racks for carrying gear and beyond.

“We want everything about our festival to create a premium experience. This year’s lineup is next-level, the Capitol Reef area is always magnificent, and the festival property—Cougar Ridge Resort—is breathtaking. We’re not interested in letting this festival get too big. We want just the right crowd size and energy to maintain our vibe,” said Jeremy Rawle, founder of Fort Desolation.

At night, after the music, attendees will return to the campground, located just a short walk from the stage, where they can enjoy after-hours jams with festival artists, campsite cook-offs, and other community-building activities as well as awe-inspiring views of the night sky in a rare International Dark Sky Community.

“The campground scene is my favorite part of this festival. You see people inviting their neighbors over for food and drinks, showing off their latest rig builds, throwing frisbees, and having fun. They show up as perfect strangers and leave as new best friends. The most anticipated element in the campground is which artist is going to appear on the after-hours stage. It’s always a surprise,” said Rawle.

Camping spots typically sell out fast, but those who miss out or just prefer to sleep indoors will find ample accommodations in and around the town of Torrey.
