The National previewed their upcoming album, First Two Pages Of Frankenstein, with the latest single, “New Order T-Shirt.” The band’s ninth studio album will be released by 4AD on April 28.

First Two Pages Of Frankenstein was recorded and produced by Matt Berninger, Bryce Dessner, Aaron Dessner, Scott Devendorf and Bryan Devendorf at Long Pond Studios in Upstate New York. The 11-track LP is The National’s first since 2019’s I Am Easy To Find. An impressive array of guests appear on the album, including Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers and Sufjan Stevens. “New Order T-Shirt” joins lead single “Tropic Morning News.”

“To me the line ‘I keep what I can of you’ means something about everyone I’ve ever known or loved,” Aaron Dessner says. “There’s a simplicity to ‘New Order T-Shirt’ that reminds me of our earlier records, but with the full maturity and experience we have now. It feels like a really important song for the future of our band.”

The National collaborated with the single’s namesake band, New Order, on a limited-edition New Order t-shirt. The design pays tribute to the band’s album art. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the t-shirt will be donated to a charity chosen by the Manchester band.
