The Revivalists Announce New Album ‘Pour It Out Into The Night’ & Share Inspiring ‘Kid’ Single

The Revivalists return with a new album entitled Pour It Out Into The Night on June 2 via Concord Records. Today, the New Orleans-based rockers released the LP’s lead single and opening track, “Kid,” along with its Johnny Chew-directed video.

Much has changed in the five years since the group’s last record, Take Good Care, came out in 2018. The pandemic led to global lockdowns, while bandmembers experienced marriage and parenthood for the first time. Pour It Out Into The Night is described in press materials as “a life-affirming album about living in the moment that offers both an unburdening and an appreciation for the here and now, fueled by lessons in gratitude and life realizations.”

The Revivalists began work on their fifth studio album in 2020. Frontman David Shaw prepped a series of demos that served as the basis for much of what would turn out to be Pour It Out Into The Night as the band exchanged ideas with each other. Shaw and guitarist Zack Feinberg got together at David’s home studio for writing sessions that yielded lead single “Kid.” The eight-piece collective assembled plenty of material and prepped demos at Fountainbleau and Marigny Studios in their hometown before calling in an outside producer.

Last year, The Revivalists decamped to Vermont for two weeks with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Foster The People) to set about recording the album. Sessions took place in the dead of winter and “Kid” gives fans the first taste of the long-in-the-making LP, which was co-produced by the band.

“‘Kid’ is about capturing the essence of life,” explained Shaw. “We all go through ups and downs. Sometimes, we don’t believe in ourselves. We’ve got skeletons in the closet trying to drag us down. But you’ve got to believe in yourself. You’ve just got to live for the spirit. Nothing good ever comes easy. If you don’t have hope, what do you have?”

The 12-track effort’s opening song was premiered live last November at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Its genesis dates back to a fateful day in U.S. history. “David and I wrote the bulk of ‘Kid’ on January 6, 2021,” Feinberg added. “My wife was one month pregnant with our twins and also we were getting real-time updates on the insurrection at the Capitol. There was a lot of intense energy swirling around us that day as we were trying to stay focused on this exciting, beautiful thingwe were channeling.”

Chew utilized stop-motion animation of the band in action over imagery that pays tribute to The Revivalists’ hometown of New Orleans. Watch the “Kid” video below:
