Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros resumed their four-night run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Friday. The Grateful Dead/Dead & Company guitarist welcomed harpist Mikaela Davis for an extended sit-in over the course of both sets and the encore.
Bob Weir & Wolf Bros along with the horn and string enable The Wolf Pack launched the first set with “The Music Never Stopped” encompassing “Easy Answers”, all told clocking in at around 25 minutes. A substantial “Loser” followed ahead of Johnny Cash’s “Big River.”
Weir’s relatively new co-write with J.D. Souther and Aaron Raitiere, “She Knows What I’m Thinkin,’” came next. After “Deal,” the band welcomed Mikaela Davis on harp beginning with “Candyman” followed by Davis leading a gorgeous “Bird Song,” which stretched to over 14 minutes to conclude the first frame.
The jazz standard “Fever” began the second set. The Ratdog era number “Ashes & Glass” then flowed into the Jerry Garcia Band staple cover “Don’t Let Go” ahead of a return to “Ashes & Glass.” Davis then came back out and would stay on for the rest of the second set, which continued with an expansive “Dark Star” — nearly hitting 19 minutes.
The funky favorite “Shakedown Street” came next ahead of “The Wheel” and The Beatles’ psychedelic classic “Tomorrow Never Knows.” The contemplative “Days Between” counted as the penultimate song of the second set before Bobby and company closed the frame with Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away.” Bob Weir & Wolf Bros returned with Davis to seal Friday evening with “Ripple,’ which saw Bobby and Mikaela splitting vocal duties.
