Animal Collective Announces Debut Album Reissue & Shares Previously Unreleased Track

Animal Collective will reissue their 2000 debut album, Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished, on May 12 via Domino. The group previewed the remastered collection with “Chocolate Girl” and also shared a previously unreleased track, “Untitled 1.”

The latter appears on an EP of previously unreleased tracks titled A Night at Mr. Raindrop’s Holistic Supermarket which is part of an expanded edition of the newly announced reissue. The five-track record, mixed by Animal Collective’s Deakin (Josh Dibb), features songs recorded during the Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished era including a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” The reissue also features new artwork by Abby and Dave Portner.

Originally released as a limited run of CDs in 2000, Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished features musical contributions from the collective’s Avey Tare (Dave Portner) & Panda Bear (Noah Lennox). Pitchfork would go on to describe the record as “a masterful piece of electro-acoustic fairy-tale music; yet its squealing electronics, and vitrified rhythms suggest something darker. Like a Snickers bar with a razorblade in it.”
