After numerous teases, Billy & The Kids officially announced a concert at New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre on April 27. The “Fleur De Dead” show takes place the night before the 2023 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival gets underway at the Fairgrounds.
Billy & The Kids finds Grateful Dead/Dead & Company drummer Bill Kreutzmann joined by bassist Reed Mathis, guitarist Tom Hamilton, keyboardist Aron Magner and newest “Kid” saxophonist James Casey. The saxophonist was a guest of the band when they last performed in 2021 both at “Dead On The Rocks” concerts at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and in Kauai, Hawaii for performances broadcast as the “Grateful Mahalo: Billy Kreutzmann’s 75th Birthday Pa’ina” livestream specials.
The original quartet debuted in December 2014 at Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam. Billy & The Kids played a handful of concerts through a 2016 appearance at the Wanee Festival. Look for performances of songs from the Grateful Dead’s catalog and more as well as surprise guests. “We’ll honor these songs with the energy and electricity that nights in New Orleans demand,” stated Kreutzmann.
