Matt Cameron Denies Report He’ll Play Drums For Foo Fighters

Matt Cameron of Pearl Jam took to Instagram on Saturday to deny a report that he will play drums for Foo Fighters on their upcoming tour. “FYI the internet rumors are false, I haven’t joined the Foos,” wrote Cameron in an Instagram Story.

The note from Cameron comes after British tabloid The Sun posted an article on March 16 claiming Cameron and Angels & Airwaves drummer Atom Willard will replace the late Taylor Hawkins behind the kit. Foo Fighters kick off their first show since Hawkins’ death on Wednesday, May 24 at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, New Hampshire.

Taylor Hawkins died on March 24, 2022 in Bogota, Colombia at the age of 50. Hawkins joined Foo Fighters in 1997. The band announced their decision to carry on with a post shared on New Year’s Eve.

“Without Taylor, we never would have become the band we were — and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward,” wrote Foo Fighters. “We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. And we know that when we see you again — and we will soon — he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night.”
