Metallica continues to preview their upcoming studio album, 72 Seasons, with the release of new single “If Darkness Had A Son.” The hard-hitting, seven-minute epic was accompanied by a Tim Saccenti-directed video.
72 Seasons arrives via Blackened Records on April 14. Produced by Greg Fidelman in conjunction with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield, the 12-track LP marks the group’s 11th studio album and first of new material since 2016’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct.
“If Darkness Had A Son” comes on the heels of fellow 72 Seasons singles “Lux Aeterna” and “Screaming Suicide.” Metallica teased “If Darkness Had A Son” by sharing clips of the song on TikTok before the full track was released. Fans were invited to “duet this” along with the band.
