Oteil Burbridge Returns To ‘The JamBase Podcast’ To Talk End Of Dead & Company + More

44

Season Two of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media network, begins with an episode featuring an interview with Oteil Burbridge. The bassist spoke with JamBase’s Scott Bernstein about the end of Dead & Company, an album of Robert Hunter/Jerry Garcia ballads he recorded and much more.

Oteil, who last appeared on The JamBase Podcast in 2019, sat down with Bernstein aboard Jam Cruise last month. Burbridge was on hand to perform two shows with an Oteil & Friends lineup that saw him joined by Eric Krasno, Jennifer Hartswick, Steve Kimock, John Kimock and Jason Crosby.

The chat started with Burbridge sharing his feelings on Dead & Company embarking on their final tour this summer. Oteil weighed in on whether he knew the announcement was coming and whether the band’s recent shows in Mexico were different in the wake of the news.

Burbridge was a member of The Allman Brothers Band when that legendary act disbanded in 2014. He discussed how the lessons learned from that experience will impact his approach to the end of Dead & Company. The 58-year-old musician also talked about Dead & Company’s stellar “Space” jams that emerge out of “Drums” at each show.

The conversation then turned to an album of Garcia/Hunter ballads Oteil recorded in Iceland. Burbridge spoke about the musicians he recruited to participate in the sessions, how they went and when he plans to release the LP. Additional topics hit upon were his Comes A Time podcast, his new fascination with professional wrestling, performing on Jam Cruise and more.
