Talking Heads Documentary ‘Stop Making Sense’ Returning To Theaters

37

Talking Heads’ famed concert film Stop Making Sense will be newly restored in 4K for a global theatrical run later this year. A trailer for Stop Making Sense 2023 shows Talking Heads frontman David Byrne in the present picking up the iconic giant suit he wears in the film from a dry cleaner.

The rights to the Jonathan Demme-directed movie have been acquired by A24. Rhino will celebrate both the film’s return to the theater and the 40th anniversary of the concerts documented in Stop Making Sense by releasing a deluxe edition of the soundtrack. Stop Making Sense (Deluxe Edition) arrives both digitally and as a limited edition, 2-LP set on August 18.

Jerry Harrison and E.T. Thorngren mixed the reissue featuring all 18 songs performed in the film. Both “Cities” and “Big Business / I Zimbra” are previously unreleased. Stop Making Sense was filmed at Pantages Theater in Hollywood over three nights in December of 1983. The 88-minute concert film/documentary was released the following year.
