Watch Ween Perform Rarity ‘Dirty Money’ For 1st Time In 29 Years In Las Vegas

Ween frontman Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman celebrated his birthday on Friday (March 17) with his bandmates as they played the second show of a three-night run at Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas. The celebratory evening in Sin City that began with “Birthday Boy,” also featured Ween’s first performance of “Dirty Money” in 29 years.

“It’s your birthday, you make the call,” Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo said during Friday’s set. “They’ll appreciate it.”

Ween then launched into “Dirty Money,” which was released as a standalone digital single in 2005, around the time the compilation album, Shinola Vol. 1, came out. Prior to Friday’s bust out, “Dirty Money” had only been played by Ween twice before, when they held shows on March 4 and March 5, 1994.

“Thank you, that one’s called ‘Dirty Money,’ by Ween,” Gener said after the bust out, adding, “you got to stop printing that shit up.”

The rarity was followed by the staples “Mister Would You Please Help My Pony?” and “Buckingham Green.” A birthday cake was then presented to Gener, who shared it with the crowd while Deaner serenaded with a cover of “Summer Wind,” which had last been played in 2003.

A fitting “Your Party” brought an end to the festive main set. The encore gave a nod to the other holiday celebrated on Friday, St. Patrick’s Day, as their “The Blarney Stone” initiated the encore.
