Allen Stone Finds His Heart’s Metronome In New “Magic” Music Video [Watch]

Allen Stone blends elements of modern pop with his soul and gospel roots to make “Magic” on his latest single. The track arrived alongside a music video starring the singer as a goofball magician. Later this week, Stone will appear on American Idol as a mentor for the second time.

“Magic” opens with funky clavinet and a steady, mid-tempo beat that begs the listener to move, but once it reaches the chorus, the song drops virtually all traces of funk in favor of a more commercial pop sound. Combine that with the churchy, “I could believe, believe, believe,” bridge and the song, like its composer, runs quite the stylistic gamut.

Like most Allen Stone tracks, the vocals take center stage, elevating the song’s clever lyrics with Stone’s distinctive timbre. “Abracadabra, / Picture perfect I’m your camera, / Kinda lady who could meet my grandma,” Stone begins before introducing a lyric that bears repeating: “My heart it used to beat alone, / But now I’ve found a metronome, / Once you know you know you know.”

“‘Magic’ was written with the intention of capturing the joy and excitement of falling in love and finding a deep connection with someone,” Stone said. “I wanted to convey a sense of positivity and optimism in the song, while having a groove that you couldn’t help but move along to.”

“Magic” is out now on all streaming platforms. Check out the official visualizer in the player below.
