The Disco Biscuits keyboardist Aron Magner will bring his SPAGA jazz trio to five cities in the coming months for a series of SPAGA Plays Dead tributes to the Grateful Dead. Magner, bassist Jason Fraticelli and drummer Matt Scarano will follow a gig in New Orleans on April 30 with four additional tour dates spanning June 1 – 4.
SPAGA Plays Dead premieres at New Orleans’ Toulouse Theatre on Saturday, April 30 during Jazz Fest. The inaugural performance of the tribute was originally slated for Brooklyn Comes Alive 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a lengthy pause in live music that included the cancelation of the event.
Magner, Fraticelli and Scarano begin a four-night run of SPAGA Plays Dead tributes at Mamaroneck, New York’s Emelin Theatre on June 1. From there the three-piece will present the Grateful Dead tributes in New York City on June 2, Ardmore (Pennsylvania) on June 3 as part of Unlimited Devotion and Washington D.C. on June 4. Mikaela Davis will support SPAGA Plays Dead in Washington D.C.
