Blink-182 will perform in the Coachella Sunday closing headliner slot abandoned by Frank Ocean, the Goldenvoice megafest announced on Thursday. Following the hour-long set from the newly reunited pop-punk trio, an EDM summit of Skrillex, Four Tet, and Fred Again.. will perform immediately after, closing the festival.
Blink-182’s set will begin at 9:20 p.m. PT before the EDM trio hit the stage at 10:25 p.m. PT, playing through to Indio, CA’s midnight curfew. Consequence reports that the EDM artists will perform in the round on the satellite stage of the main Coachella Stage, which was originally intended to house an ice rink for Frank Ocean’s set—a plan that was ultimately abandoned days before his April 16th festival-closing performance.

This news comes after Coachella earlier this week confirmed that Frank Ocean would not return to close out the festival’s second weekend. The singer generated controversy on Sunday when his performance left many fans underwhelmed by its low energy, lack of production elements, delayed start time, and early conclusion due to curfew.
In the days since, first-hand accounts from those involved have circulated recounting how a leg injury Ocean suffered in the days leading up to the performance derailed the elaborate production. A large ice rink stage design with 120 figure skaters and hockey players was eschewed and instead, a cast of 30 performers shuffled across the stage on foot. Meanwhile, Ocean performed much of the set while seated. Audiences watching Coachella’s free livestreams on YouTube were shut out entirely, as shortly before the doomed set Ocean’s team revoked the festival’s streaming privileges.

“It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon,” Ocean said of the performance in a statement shared on Wednesday.
Earlier in the weekend, the classic Blink-182 lineup staged a surprise set that was added to the festival schedule only days before. Friday’s 18-song, 50-minute performance marked the first time DeLonge, Hoppus, and Barker performed together since 2014. Following the band’s now-headlining set at Coachella weekend two, Blink-182 will hit the road for a two-year, worldwide reunion tour beginning next month.
