Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker reunited on Friday at Coachella for their first performance as Blink-182 in eight years. Announced just days before the pop megafest in Indio, CA was set to begin, the 18-song set served as a preview for the band’s world tour scheduled to begin next month.
The classic Blink-182 lineup featuring guitarist Tom DeLonge, who had not performed with the band since October 2014, was initially slated to begin touring last month in South America. However, a freak finger injury for drummer Travis Barker delayed those plans with the band now looking to begin a North American leg in May. Then Wednesday night, Coachella released its daily schedules with the notable addition of Blink-182 on Friday.
Taking the Sahara Stage to thunderous applause and a recording of “Also Sprach Zarathustra” from 2001: A Space Odyssey, the classic Blink-182 lineup fittingly opened with “Family Reunion”. With only 50 minutes to perform, the trio moved at an impressive clip through 18 songs. Included in the setlist was the live debut of the band’s 2022 single “Edging” as well as its first performance of “Aliens Exist” with Tom since 2001.
Of course, Blink-182 also performed hits “What’s My Age Again?”, “I Miss You”, “Damnit”, and “All The Small Things”, while a crowd filled with many Gen Zers who likely weren’t even born yet when Enema Of The State was released captured the iconic lines for TikTok. Closing the set with “Damnit”, Hoppus took a detour into TLC‘s “No Scrubs” to show that even though nearly a decade has passed Blink-182 still hasn’t grown up.
