David Bromberg Recruits Jeff Tweedy For Last New York City Big Band Show

33

Renowned roots musician David Bromberg will bring his Big Band to The Beacon Theatre for the ensemble’s final concert in New York City on Saturday, June 10. Special guests are expected to take part in the 77-year-old musician’s farewell to the Big Apple with Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy the first to be confirmed.

“It’ll be a party with my bandmates and friends; a real treat to have everyone together,” said Bromberg in a statement. “I’m happy and proud to come full circle and play this last show in New York City where it all started so many years ago.”

As Bromberg noted, he began his illustrious +50-year career as a fixture in the mid-1960s Greenwich Village music scene. He took lessons learned from such luminaries as Reverend Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt and Doc Watson and infused them into his own music. Bromberg also accompanied the likes of Jerry Jeff Walker and Bob Dylan, while participating in recording sessions with the Eagles, Ringo Starr, Doug Sahm, Willie Nelson, John Prine and countless others.

David Bromberg’s latest album, 2019’s Big Road, showcases the band that will back him at the Beacon. Bromberg will be joined in NYC by Nate Grower (fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals), Mark Cosgrove (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Josh Kanusky (drums, vocals), Suavek Zaniesienko (bass, vocals), Nancy Josephson (vocals), Kathleen Weber (vocals), Harvey Tibbs (trombone), Matt Koza (tenor sax, clarinet), Gordon Au (trumpet) and Dan Walker (keyboards, accordion) as well as Tweedy and other friends.
