Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have released a new single, “Cast Iron Skillet”, along with a slate of new summer tour dates. The track is the four single due to appear on the band’s forthcoming studio album Weathervanes following “Death Wish” and “Middle of the Morning“.
Produced by Isbell with additional production by Matt Pence on five songs, Weathervanes is Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s eighth album. The collection of 13 original tracks is the followup to 2020’s Reunions and the 2021 covers album Georgia Blue and is set to arrive via Southeastern Records/Thirty Tigers on June 9th.
“Cast Iron Skillet” is a slow and reflective acoustic composition featuring Isbell’s wife Amanda Shires on fiddle and 400 Unit member Derry DeBorja on accordion. The lyrics are cryptic but seem to portray a storyline involving family, romance, and murder—all the makings of a great country song.

Along with the new single, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit announced new tour dates in the Midwest and South. Picking up at the end of the group’s already extensive summer tour, the newly announced shows begin on August 11th at Rabbit Rabbit in Asheville, NC on August 11. In September, Isbell and his band will make stops in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Louisiana, and Tennessee before concluding the tour at Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC on October 7th.
