On the heels John Wick: Chapter 4‘s $300 million-plus box office run, Peacock has unveiled a prequel to the gun-slinging crime franchise set in the one of New York City’s grittiest decades—watch the first trailer for The Continental above.

Named for one of the most iconic locations in the John Wick universe, the three-episode miniseries takes place in 1970s NYC. While the original movies follow the killer exploits of Keanu Reeves’ titular ex-hitman, the Peacock Original focuses on a younger version of Winston Scott, the owner of the The Continental Hotel with deep connections to the criminal underworld.

See the official synopsis below:

The three-part event will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.

Starring Colin Woodell as Scott, the cast of hitmen and hotel guests also includes Mel Gibson as Cormac, Peter Greene as Uncle Charlie, Ben Robson as Frankie, Ayomide Adegun as the young concierge Charon, Nhung Kate as Yen, and Katie McGrath as The Adjudicator.

According to Variety, Albert Hughes, who also serves as executive producer, will direct the first and last episode of The Continental, while Charlotte Brandstom will direct the third.

The Continental: From the World of John Wick premieres this September exclusively on Peacock.
