Kevin Morby detailed More Photographs (A Continuum), which is a companion to his 2022 album, This Is A Photograph. Morby shared a pair of reworked songs, “This Is A Photograph II” and “Five Easy Pieces Revisited” from the pending album set for release via Dead Oceans on May 26.
“If This Is A Photograph is a house that you have been living inside of, then More Photographs is, perhaps, the same home just experienced differently,” Morby said. “As if you, its inhabitant, have taken a tab of something psychedelic and now, suddenly, you’ve replaced your eyeglasses with kaleidoscopes. Everything you once thought was familiar suddenly appears differently, shifting shapes, color and sonic landscapes.”
Both albums were produced by Morby’s frequent collaborator Sam Cohen. The companion piece features nine new tracks, including six new songs and three reimagined arrangements of songs on This Is A Photograph.
The reimagined songs consist of “This Is A Photograph II” and “Five Easy Pieces Revisited,” as well as “Bittersweet, Tennessee,” which updates “Bittersweet, TN” and again features Erin Rae on added vocals. New song “Triumph” is said to be inspired by Big Star’s Chris Bell and the closing track “Kingdom Of Hearts” is hailed as the origin story of both albums.
“With every collection of songs,” Morby added. “I feel I must cast them out of me before moving on to the next project, and here I knew that what I had begun with This Is A Photograph was not finished. Releasing this collection is my tying a bow on that time and place in my creative life.”
