Music at the Intersection Festival has revealed the loaded artist lineup for its return to St. Louis, MO on September 9th and 10th, 2023.

Headliners for the festival’s third edition include St. Louis rapper Smino, lauded contemporary jazz artist Thundercat, Jamaican-American singer and saxophonist Masego, and five-time Grammy Award-winning jazz-fusion collective Snarky Puppy. Continuing its tradition of booking foundational music royalty, Music at the Intersection’s 2023 lineup also features legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, beloved bluesman Taj Mahal, and St. Louis R&B singer-songwriter Angela Winbush.

In addition to Smino, Masego, Winbush, and Snarky Puppy, the Saturday, September 9th schedule is set to include Ravyn Lenae, Peter Martin ft. Dianne Reeves, Nate Smith ft. Jason Lindner and Tim Lefebvre, Keyon Harrold with Pharoahe Monch and STOUT, Phony Ppl, The Suffers, Denise Thimes, Earthworms, and more.

On Sunday, September 10th, Herbie, Thundercat, and Taj Mahal will be joined on the bill by Vulfpeck offshoot The Fearless Flyers, NOLA favorites Tank and the Bangas, Australian blues-rockers The Teskey Brothers, party animals Andy Frasco & The U.N., blues guitarist Samantha Fish, and more. In addition, Music at the Intersection will mark the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and its far-reaching effects on contemporary culture with notable hip-hop figures from through the eras and across the country including iconic DJ Grandmaster Flash, NYC funk group Cameo, Atlanta’s two-time Grammy winning Arrested Development, new school NYC hip-hop act Phony Ppl, and a wide array of St. Louis-based hip-hop artists and DJs.

In addition to music, the festival will also put special emphasis on art and culture. As part of Elemental—a year-long, community-facing event series celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop presented by Music at the Intersection and The Walls off Washington—the festival will include activations paying homage to the four elements of hip-hop. Along with the displays of DJing and MCing on the festival’s four stages, Music at the Intersection will also feature breakdancing (B-Boying/B-Girling) demonstrations and graffiti art.

“We’re back for year three with a lineup featuring hometown heroes, new trending sounds, a celebration of hip-hop, and absolute legends across R&B, jazz and blues,” said Chris Hansen, executive director of Kranzberg Arts Foundation, which presents the festival in partnership with Steward Family Foundation and The Regional Arts Commission (RAC) of St. Louis. “We received incredible feedback last year about the diversity of our festival, both regarding the performers as well as the attendees, who were a real representation of St. Louis, spanning all ages and races. Our aim continues to be the creation of a truly accessible, multi-dimensional and dynamic urban music experience. A ticket to Music at the Intersection delivers block-party vibes with top-tier talent in an environment primed for musical and artistic exploration.”

During the Music at the Intersection weekend, more than 50 national, regional, and local artists are scheduled to perform across four stages throughout the outdoor festival footprint of St. Louis’ Grand Center Arts District—a mix of urban streets and green spaces stretching across Washington Avenue just east of Grand Blvd. Tickets for Music at the Intersection 2023 go on sale here on Friday, April 14th, at 10:00 a.m. local time.
