What That ’70s Show was to Eric Foreman‘s Vista Cruiser, adolescence of the ’90s and ’00s were to the Ford Taurus. The rounded, turtle-like vehicle inspired plenty of road trips, 7/11 runs, and more than its fair share of nights out past curfew. Now, the Ford Taurus is getting a proper tribute from Charleston, SC’s Sexbruise?
Those who doubt the sex appeal of a reasonably priced sedan that won 1986’s Motor Trend Car of the Year clearly have not heard the new banger from the satirical pop quartet. With scintillating synths combined with pulsating drums and a big phat hook, the track melds with a music video as retro as the car itself. Drummer John Pope‘s rap verse sends the song over the top with “My other car is a Mercedes / All my clothes from Old Navy / And I max out at about 80 / B–h, I got 15-inch hubcaps / CD player? F–k yeah.”
“When I was in college I drove a Hyundai Sonata,” Pope said. “The car in the song was inspired by this car and my roommate’s Ford Taurus, which was also pretty shitty. I found ‘Ford Taurus’ to flow much more smoothly off the tongue than ‘Hyundai Sonata.’”
