Watch Primus & Members Of Tool Perform ‘Ænema’ In Los Angeles

Primus held a benefit concert on Monday night at The Belasco in Los Angeles for film director/musician Jimmy Hayward, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. The band was joined by Tool drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor, as well as Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen during the special show.

The collaborative set began with a string of Primus favorites, “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers,” “Groundhog’s Day,” “Too Many Puppies,” and “Here Come the Bastards.” Next came a segment of covers, beginning with King Crimson’s “Thela Hun Ginjeet.”

Primus bassist Les Claypool put down his instrument and donned a horned helmet before singing the Tool classic “Ænema.” Comedian Dean Delray then emerged to sing lead on AC/DC’s “Whole Lotta Rosie,” with Hayward also joining in on guitar. Carey and Primus drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander were highlighted on a subsequent take on Led Zeppelin’s “Moby Dick.”

The set ended with the Primus staple “My Name Is Mud.” The special concert – that also featured a performance by Carey’s other band Legend of the Seagullmen which includes Hayward, Mastodon’s Brent Hinds, and others – was capped with Primus and their guests ripping through “Southbound Pachyderm.”
