Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters recruited guitarist Billy Strings to add to his new single, “Muscle Car.” The track is featured on Hall’s forthcoming solo album, Squareneck Soul, which is set for release on June 23 via Americana Vibes.

Squareneck Soul features 10 new originals the dobroist composed that leave plenty of space for improvisation and pickin’. While Hall went the ambient route for 2021’s A Universe Within, his latest LP finds him returning to his bluegrass roots and displaying the evolution of the dobro. Andy Hall put together a band for the project that includes his Stringduster bandmate Travis Book on bass, Sam Bush Band banjoist Wes Corbett and mandolin wiz Sierra Hull.

Squareneck Soul is truly a project from my heart and my soul,” explained Andy Hall. “A slide guitar record 15 years in the making. It’s a collection of original instrumental tunes designed as a template for bluegrass improvisation. I think of it as a musical playground for some world-class pickers!”

“Muscle Car” arrives on the heels of lead single “Up In Bigfoot Country.” The infectious instrumental showcases the massive talents of each musician with Strings, Hall, Corbett and Hull each laying down fiery solos. Billy and Andy trade licks to bring “Muscle Car” to a rolling boil towards the end of the tune.

Andy Hall enlisted Olise Forel to create an animated video for “Muscle Car.” The visual simulates a video game in which an avatar of Hall takes a journey in a red Ford Mustang through the mountains of Colorado, the majestic Grand Canyon and riding high over the California Aqueduct before arriving at a show.
