Billy Strings returned to Sin City on Wednesday for a show at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas where he celebrated Bob Dylan on his 82nd birthday by debuting a cover of “Motorpsycho Nightmare”.
Strings and his band opened the first set with a bluegrass classic, “Doin’ My Time”, originally by Jimmie Skinner and later released by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. The 13-song set was highlighted by a cover of Jeff Austin‘s “15 Steps”, original tunes “Running The Route”, “Taking Water”, “Watch It Fall”, and “Libby Phillips Rag”, and a set-closing take on Jackson Browne’s “Running On Empty”, which included a tease of Jimi Hendrix‘s “Third Stone From The Sun”.
Set two featured a total of three Bob Dylan birthday covers, beginning with “Motorpsycho Nightmare”, which fell after the opening pair of “Tipper” by Tony Rice and “I’m Still Here” by John Hartford. Then, after playing a mix of originals and covers, Strings and company broke out Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” and “Drifter’s Escape” before ending the encore-less show with T&T’s “All Of Tomorrow” and the traditional “Katy Daley”.
