66

Virtuosic guitarist William Tyler and Four Tet mastermind/producer Kieran Hebden shared the collaborative single “Darkness, Darkness.” The song is the A-side of a two-song set that also includes “No Services” the pair prepped for Psychic Hotline’s singles series with the physical release due on 12″ vinyl from the label founded by Sylvan Esso on June 30.

“Darkness, Darkness” and “No Services” mark the first known collaboration between the pair. Tyler recorded his guitar parts for the former at Huge Planet in his hometown of Nashville. Penned by Jesse Colin Young for The Youngbloods, Gloria Loring released a cover of “Darkness, Darkness” on her 1969 album …And Now We Come To Distances. The new “Darkness, Darkness” collaboration finds Hebden employing samples from Loring’s version with tinges of acoustic guitar and electric guitar shredding via Tyler.

The songs from William Tyler and Kieran Hebden are the eigth installment of Psychic Hotline’s singles series. Hand Habits, Ethan Grushka & Bon Iver, Uwade and Flock Of Dimes are among others previously featured.

Hebden revealed on Instagram a collaborative album with Tyler is in the works, writing:

“I’ve been working on some music with @williamtylertn the last few years and we have a couple of the tracks about be released as a 12” on @psychichotline The first track on the record called Darkness Darkness is also out digitally today. It was made after I sent William some samples and loops I’d put together and he layered up all the guitar parts to go with it. Since then we have also done some sessions in a studio with plans of making an album. Ben UFO plays cello on the album and there is a Lyle Lovett cover. I hope to finish the record soon.”
