My Morning Jacket Shares “Golden” From Rain-Soaked 2004 Bonnaroo Set Ahead Of Doc Premiere [Watch]

My Morning Jacket opens up the skies to let in a little “Golden” sunlight in a new clip from the band’s legendary rain-soaked 2004 set at Bonnaroo. The full performance is set for cross-platform release on June 9th as Bonnaroo 2004 (Return To Thunderdome), with a documentary of the same name premiering tonight, May 23rd, on the band’s YouTube.

As My Morning Jacket took the Which Stage on June 12th, 2004, dark storm clouds began to amass overhead. What transpired was a set that lives on in both MMJ and Bonnaroo lore as the then-budding psych-pop band braved the elements in what ultimately proved a torrential downpour.

“Golden” arrived third in the band’s 12-song set before the rain started but ominously predicts the inclement weather with the line, “Watching a crowd roll in / Out go the lights it begins.” The wistfully reflective song about the life of a touring musician only increases in sentimentality when paired with the video from almost 20 years ago, with Jim James omnipotently predicting, “We’ll be right here forever / Go through this thing together.”

“It seems like only yesterday we were playing in the hot n sweaty rain-soaked Thunderdome down at the ol roo…but WOW it’s been nearly 20 years!” James said. “We are so excited to revisit and share this pivotal moment for the band and beautiful moment in time with the universe with you all again!”

Bonnaroo 2004 (Return To Thunderdome) arrives as the third installment of the MMJ Live archival series. The full 12-song set will land on streaming platforms and 2LP 140g Coke bottle clear vinyl. Pre-orders are open now.

Check out My Morning Jacket performing “Golden” at Bonnaroo 2004 and tune in tonight at 9 p.m. ET on the band’s YouTube channel for the premiere of the Return To Thunderdome documentary. My Morning Jacket recently announced a North American tour including a return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a run of shows with Fleet Foxes, anniversary concerts celebrating 2003’s It Still Moves, and more.
