LP Giobbi brought her Dead House Grateful Dead dance party to New Orleans this past Saturday for an after-party following Dead & Company‘s performance at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The performance, which featured and opening set by Yesmann, the electronic music alter-ego of Cool Cool Cool guitarist Craig Brodhead, came as part of Live For Live Music‘s Fest by Nite event series during Jazz Fest.
Falling on the Dead & Co-headlined second Saturday of Jazz Fest’s ten-day window in the Big Easy, Giobbi’s Dead House set came as a welcome respite from the countless instrumental performances that saturated the city starting more than a week prior. The tie-dye-clad Deadheads that overtook the Jazz Fest fairgrounds during the day seemed to all mosey over to The Howlin’ Wolf to keep the party going into the night, and what better way than with a mix of familiar Grateful Dead tunes set to irresistible dance grooves? The show also attracted a notably younger crowd of electronic dance music fans, some of whom danced on the stage throughout LP’s invigorating set.

Those looking for a live performance rather than a DJ set got their fill, too, as Giobbi used live production techniques to bring new life to old Grateful Dead recordings (and even a bit of Goose) right before the audience’s eyes. She also played keyboard, which further injected an element of live musicianship to the trance-inducing set, and sated the crowd with selections from her recent album, Garcia (Remixed), though the majority of the set consisted of unreleased tracks.
