Deer Tick shared a new single/video “If I Try To Leave.” The track will appear on the Providence, Rhode Island rockers’ upcoming album, Emotional Contracts, set for release this Friday, June 16 via ATO Records.

Produced by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Spoon, Sleater-Kinney), Deer Tick announced their ATO debut and first studio LP in four years, Emotional Contracts, in April. The quartet also shared the lead single “Forgiving Ties” along with the eight-minute album closer “The Real Thing.” Deer Tick followed with “Once In A Lifetime” and now “If I Try To Leave.”

The latest single is the first co-write between guitarist/vocalist John McCauley and guitarist Ian O’Neil in the band’s nearly 20 year career. Musically, “If I Try To Leave” draws inspiration from Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards’ solo output.

“The overall theme of this song is family and how I’ve come to rely on it,” McCauley said of the song’s subject matter. “I need my family as a grounding force in my life. My survival depends on it, and I like it that way.”

“If I Try To Leave” arrived with a clever, Ian Stroud-directed visual that parodies internet how-to videos featuring strange culinary creations from chef and producer Farideh Sadeghin. Watch below:

Deer Tick’s 2023 Summer Tour is underway including dates supporting Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. The band has also rounded out their fall schedule. Check out Deer Tick’s itinerary:
