Denver-based guitarist DJ Williams officially opens a new chapter in his career with Soldier of Love, his first album under his own name, out now via Perception Records. The ten-track project promises a unique provides listeners an earnest look an artist in the midst of evolution, blending soulful grooves, funky guitar riffs, and infectious melodies with introspective lyrics on the complexity of the human experience.
The album’s production was helmed by the acclaimed up-and-coming producer Jay.Greens, founder of Denver, CO’s Perception Records. Together, Williams, Jay.Greens, and co-producer Josh Fairman of SunSquabi, who also played bass on the majority of the album, forged a collection of songs that reverberate with the authenticity of an artist growing, evolving, and taking his place in the spotlight. The album also features contributions from a slew of notable artists including Kanika Moore (Doom Flamingo), Roosevelt Collier, Isaac Teel (TAUK), Alan Evans (Soulive), Adam Deitch (Lettuce, Break Science), Eric “Benny” Bloom (Lettuce), and more.
“This project has given me the opportunity to collab with a bunch of amazing artists I admire, and I’m looking forward to testing out a lot of the music on the road,” said Williams of Soldier of Love, “Being able to showcase material that is truly my own has been the goal for a long time.”
“My goal is always to create something that speaks to people’s hearts,” Williams added. “I want listeners to be able to connect with my music on an emotional level—whether it’s joy or pain or anything in between—so they can take away something meaningful from each song.”

Williams, alongside the team at Perception Records, produced dazzling supplementary music videos to herald the release. After releasing the minimalist “Black Man” video last month, Williams returned with a Boondocks-style animated video for the album’s title track. Today, in addition to releasing the full album, DJ Williams has shared a live, in-studio video for “Johnny’s Got a Gun” featuring Adam Deitch, Eric Benny Bloom, Ian Gilley, and Nate Miller.
