It was a week of firsts for ascending Connecticut jam quartet Eggy, who over the course of four days unveiled two new songs and made its debut in Portland, ME. Additionally, the band logged its first-ever sold-out show in Vermont with a concert at the hallowed Nectar’s.

The band’s four-show run in as many states began on Wednesday at The Homestead in Morristown, NJ. After a first set that saw Eggy look back at its Elton John-themed Halloween run from last year with the Rocket Man’s “Bad Side of the Moon”, Eggy returned for a second set that featured the debut of the new song, “You”.

In audio captured of Thursday’s show, “You” reveals itself as a slow-burning track propelled by pensive keyboards from Dani Battat. Lyrically, there is a lover’s scorn in drummer Alex Bailey‘s voice, as he decries, “I don’t want to be used by you.” Soaring guitar from Jake Brownstein brings the song out of the dumps as the band’s other talented vocalists jump in to uplift the chorus.

The following night at Buffalo Iron Works in New York, Eggy took a jam-heavy approach at the two-set show that witnessed only eight songs. “You” made its second-ever appearance and, clocking in at around five minutes, ranked as one of the shortest songs of the concert. Taking its place as the improvisational centerpiece was a second-set-closing “Onitsuka Tiger” that neared half an hour.

Crossing more state lines into Vermont, Eggy made its sold-out debut at Burlington’s Nectar’s on Friday. Filling the sacred spot where Phish cut its teeth decades ago was yet another milestone for Eggy in a weekend full of them. While Eggy didn’t cover any Phish while at Nectar’s, the group delivered what could be seen as a veiled reference to the Vermont jam giants. During the first set, Eggy covered “Interior People” by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, one of Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s favorite bands who he was actually seeing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last week.

Finally, Eggy’s four-night, four-state run wrapped on Saturday with a show at Portland House of Music in Maine. The Forest City gave the band a proper welcome, and the quartet returned the favor with yet another new song, “Laurel”. Arriving in the three-slot of set one, the new tune set off a stellar run of songs that included Little Feat‘s “All That You Dream”, a bust-out of “Beyond These Walls” (LTP 10/20/21, per The Carton), and “Broken Bluff”, the latter two of which saw Jake switch to piano.

The final set of the weekend run was no slouch either. Starting off with the Big Thief cover “Time Escaping”, the band sandwiched nearly the entire set between “Burritos El Chavo 2”, weaving through “Leatherback” and “Lost and Found” before concluding the song and the second set. Finally, the run came to a close with a “Tome Corn Walker” encore, which saw a delayed tribute to Phish as the band teased “Chalk Dust Torture” during the jam finale.
