Goose‘s Goosemas concerts are usually the band’s biggest show(s) of the year and that tradition will continue with Goosemas 2023. The Connecticut-based jam quintet will bring Goosemas to the legendary Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia on Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9. The concerts will be the Connecticut-based jam quintet’s first at “The Mothership.”
Tickets for both nights go on sale to the general public this Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. ET. A Venue Presale is slated for Thursday, June 22 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. ET. Buy Goosemas 2023 tickets via Ticketmaster.com. Additionally, a Seated ticket request lottery is underway now at goosemas.com with entries due by Wednesday, June 21 at 5 p.m. ET.
Hampton Coliseum gained notoriety among Heads as home to 21 Grateful Dead concerts spanning 1979 through 1992. Those runs included the famed “Formerly The Warlocks” run on October 8 and 9, 1989 when the Dead performed under their original moniker. Use of the “Mothership” to describe the building’s futuristic exterior was first made by journalist John Colt in a review of GD’s 1981 visit to Hampton Coliseum for the Virginian-Pilot newspaper as per illustrator Una Toibin.
Phish’s history with the Hampton Coliseum dates back to November 25, 1995. The quartet played 21 shows at the venue including memorable two-night stands in 1997 and 1998 that were captured on the Hampton/Winston-Salem ’97 and Hampton Comes Alive live albums respectively. On January 2 – 4, 2003 Phish continued their return from a hiatus with a three-night stand following New Year’s Eve 2002 at Madison Square Garden. Later, the group would end a five-year breakup by performing at The Mothership from March 6 – 8, 2009. The most recent Phish visit came October 19 – 21, 2018.
Goose held Goosemas in their home state of Connecticut through 2020, when the pandemic led the group to play a livestream concert broadcast from New York City’s Rockefeller Center. The next installment took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on February 26, 2022 — a few months later than originally scheduled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the band’s camp. Goosemas then moved to Colorado for two nights at Broomfield’s 1STBANK Center on December 16 and 17, 2022. The 2017 iteration of Goosemas was multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach‘s first show as a member of Goose.
“Goosemas started as a small holiday party with our friends in Connecticut 10 years ago, so it’s wild to bring it to this epic coliseum,” explained guitarist Rick Mitarotonda. “Hampton is a very special place to me, I’ve only been there once before, but it was a very meaningful and impactful experience, I’m very grateful we have the opportunity to play there this year.”
“Goosemas is always one of my favorite shows of the year,” added Anspach. “I love how everyone gets into the spirit with us, and this year it will be extra special coinciding with our first show at the legendary Hampton Coliseum.”
