Lyricist Jeff Firewalker, one half of Saint Disruption along with legendary keyboardist John Medeski, weighs on his feelings John F. Kennedy’s assasination was the death of the American Dream on the project’s new single, “6-Bullet Sovereign.” JamBase is pleased to premiere the track featuring vocalist Datrian Johnson from the forthcoming third Saint Disruption album, This Starless Night.
Firewalker has always been fascinated by the life and times of the 35th president of the United States. Jeff was born two years after JFK was murdered and has often dreamed about him. The lyricist poured his lifetime of being haunted and inspired by JFK into “6-Bullet Sovereign.”
“The lyrics and the song’s mounting intensity remind us that the unhealed heart often manifests our deepest cruelty,” as per press materials heralding the track, which will be officially released this Friday, June 16. “This song, rather than being an anthem, is a call-to-attention. The song is offered with the prayer that everyone who listens will remember – and in that remembrance find healing.”
Jeff Firewalker Schmitt arranged “6-Bullet Sovereign” with Datrian Johnson and Jamie Hendrickson. The Schmitt-produced track features Firewalker on drums and percussion, Hendrickson on guitar, Medeski on keys, Jake Wolf on bass as well as vocals by Johnson, Melissa McKinney and Kayla McKinney. John Medeski stated the following about Datrian Johnson and his contributions to the song:
