It’s A Great Escape: See David Shaw & Goose Cover Blind Melon’s ‘No Rain’ In New Orleans

David Shaw of New Orleans’ The Revivalists shared pro-shot video of his recent sit-in with Goose on the Blind Melon favorite “No Rain.” The footage is from Goose’s headlining set at the Daze Between Festival at NOLA’s at Faubourg Brewery on May 3.

Shaw joined Goose for “No Rain” toward the end of the band’s first set. The song appearing on Blind Melon’s 1992 self-titled debut album has been in Goose’s repertoire since 2018. The Connecticut band’s version sees Peter Anspach on guitar and manning the song’s instantly recognisable riff.

Blind Melon were an influential band for Shaw as well, who shared some thoughts on late frontman Shannon Hoon along with the video. Read an excerpt:

I feel a certain kind of kinship to Shannon and Blind Melon’s music. Like him, I grew up in a small midwest city playing in metal bands and listening to the Grateful Dead among other influences from my older siblings. To be clear, I’m in no way comparing myself to him…He’s one of a kind…There is no other, but I do feel a thread between us. If you’re from the Midwest you know what I mean. We have a way, an easy kind of being. Hell, we could make friends with the devil and sometimes we do. I didn’t know Shannon but I can only imagine he had this in him. I’m just grateful for his true artistry, freedom of spirit, and willingness to go out on that edge where most won’t go just to bring back something beautiful for the people.

It was an honor to sing this song with Goose and pay tribute to one of the greats.

Goose’s second of two headlining slots at Daze Between, whoch took place between Jazz Fest weekends, also saw the band welcoming the Cool Cool Cool horns and keyboardist Neal Francis for a smoking “Hot Tea.” Watch that performacne here.
