Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi shared a note on Instagram announcing his plan to take an immediate and indefinite break from touring. Capaldi made “the most difficult decision of [his] life” as he’s “still learning to adjust to the impact of [his] Tourette’s.”
The announcement came after Capaldi had difficulties finishing his set at the Glastonbury festival on Saturday. Lewis has previously canceled three weeks of shows leading up to Glastonbury to “rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for” the festival and other shows he had planned.
Lewis Capaldi, who revealed last September in an Instagram livestream that he had been officially diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome, had ticks at Glastonbury that led to his voice giving out. “Glastonbury, I’m really sorry,” Capaldi told the crowd as per the BBC’s report. “I’m a bit annoyed with myself.”
The audience at the massive festival responded with love and support. Many festivalgoers belted out the lyrics to his songs, aiding Capaldi through a few tunes. Watch the heartwarming scene as the crowd helped Lewis on his 2019 UK chart-topping hit “Someone You Loved”:

“I genuinely dreamt of doing this,” the 26-year-old musician exclaimed before he left the stage. “If I never get to do it again, this has been enough.”
“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future,” wrote Capaldi in his post today (Tuesday, June 27).
“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come,” Capaldi’s statement continued.
