[UPDATE 9/21/23]: Space cowboys, rejoice: The robotic Jamiroquai hat that was lost on a train in North London in June has been found, the band said in a post on Thursday.

The light-up headpiece, worn by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay in the music video for 2017’s “Automaton”, went missing back in June during a train ride in North London. The English funk favorites put out a public call for help retrieving the hat, but the search continued through the summer as the band played a string of festival dates in Europe, the U.K., and the Middle East.

But now, the Automaton hat has been recovered and returned to its rightful owner. “Breaking News,” the group wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday, “the Automaton HAT has returned! Many thanks to the kind person who handed it in at the station. It’s good to have you back, Automaton hat.”

While Jamiroquai currently has no upcoming tour dates on the books, fans can rest assured that Jay’s head will be adorned with the proper level of luminosity the next time the band takes the stage.

[6/8/23]: “Some Wanker Lost The Jamiroquai ‘Automaton’ Hat On A Train”: The light-up, robotic hat famously worn by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay in the music video for 2017’s “Automaton” has gone missing, the band reported this week.

According to an alert on the Jamiroquai social media accounts, the hat, which has been a centerpiece of Jamiroquai’s live performances in the ensuing years, disappeared during a train ride in North London on Tuesday. The band is “calling all eagle eyed commuters and residents” to be on the lookout for the distinctive headpiece.

“Lost in transit on a train from Kings Cross to Luton, the Automaton hat has gone walkabout,” the post explained. “Cased in an orange plastic waterproof box (see photo), the hat is non functioning and was on its way for repair in advance of Jamiroquai’s headline festival run which starts later this month. The hat is fragile and we miss it badly, reward offered for information leading to its return.”

Jamiroquai is offering a reward for information leading to the hat’s return. Reach out to the band on Instagram if you can help crack the case.
