Watch Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band Go ‘Racing In The Street’ For 1st Time Since 2017

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band continued the European leg of their 2023 Tour with the second of three concerts at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden on Monday. The Boss broke out the beloved “Racing In The Street” about halfway through his main set in Sweden.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s Gothenburg concert saw the return of “My Love Will Not Let You Down” in the opening slot for the first time since June 13 in Zurich, Switzerland followed by “Death To My Hometown.” While the tour debut of the latter came in Cleveland, the Wrecking Ball track has seen much more action in Europe, regularly appearing in the second song slot.

Familiar early set songs like Born In The U.S.A.’s “No Surrender” as well as “Ghosts” and the title track from Bruce’s latest album of original material, 2020’s Letter To You, followed. The 2023 Tour has seen Springsteen getting into 1970s material about a quarter of the way into his concert, beginning with “The Promised Land” form 1978’s Darkness On The Edge of Town.

After Bruce gave a birthday shoutout to a fan for “Mary’s Place,” Sptingsteen added another Darkness cut to the 2023 Tour, delivering the first “Racing In The Street” since January 30, 2017 in Adelaide, Australia, as per SetlistFm Stats. The song is a classic example of the hard luck characters that populate Darkness, following the plight of a traveling street racer.

On the Gothenburg “Racing In The Street,” Bruce queued longtime E Street Band pianist Roy Bittan to deliver his poignant piano intor before offering a passionate vocal performance of the Darkness side one closer. Roy also led “Racing In The Street’s” extended coda, stretching the song out to around 10 minutes.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band delivered their usual favorite-filled encore to close the concert including “Born In The U.S.A.,” “Born To Run,” “Glory Days,” “Dancing In The Dark,” “Tenth-Avenue Freeze Out” and more.
