Billy Strings returned to Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, NC on Friday for the second of three sold-out shows.
After kicking it in the parking lot with fans before the show on night one, Strings returned with his trusty band, comprised of Billy Failing (banjo), Royal Masat (bass), Alex Hargreaves (fiddle), and Jarrod Walker (mandolin), ready to throw down. The band stuck to a two-set format, with the first set led by “Long Forgotten Dream” and highlighted by a cover of “Sin City” by The Flying Burrito Brothers, played for the first time since 2021 and dedicated to Billy’s mother Deb, who was in the audience.

The set also featured the band’s debut of “Durham’s Bull” by Buddy Durham and the return of “Nutshell” by Alice in Chains, which arrived directly before a set-closing “Cabin Song”.
Set two kicked off with fan favorite “Dust in a Baggie”, followed by Jeff Austin‘s “Fiddlin’ Around” and an emotional “While I’m Waiting Here”. The set continued with Johnny Horton’s “Ole Slew-Foot” and a string of crowd-pleasing originals including “Hellbender”, “Fire Line”, and “Running the Route”.
After rounding out the second set with a few more songs including Allen Reynolds’ “Ready for the Times to Get Better”, “Turmoil & Tinfoil”, and the traditional “Train 45”, the band used the encore to debut the Andy Griffith Show Theme Song, “Andy Griffith 3000”.
Billy Strings continues his summer tour with one more sold-out show at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, NC tonight, July 15th. The show will be available to stream free for nugs subscribers.
