Dave Matthews Band stopped through Alpharetta on Tuesday where the band honored Georgia heroes the Allman Brothers Band with the group’s keyboardist Chuck Leavell. DMB also touched on Leavell’s other band, The Rolling Stones, during the extended sit-in at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre.

It was a night of classic rock favorites in Alpharetta even before Leavell joined the party, with the Dave Matthews Band performing its recently-solidified take on Led Zeppelin‘s “Fool In The Rain” early in the show. Midway through the main set, DMB welcomed Leavell—who played with the Allmans during their mid-1970s commercial heydey—for the Eat A Peach gem “Melissa”. The Dave Matthews Band should be well familiarized with “Melissa” at this point, having covered the song last week with another former ABB member, Warren Haynes, at Jones Beach in New York.

Between tributes to classic rock royalty, DMB snuck in an original with “Grace Is Gone”. Rounding out the trio of Leavell-assisted songs, Chuck showed off his versatility as he picked up a cowbell for the Dave Matthews Band’s first-ever take on The Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women”. There was no shortage of singers as the entire amphitheater chimed in for the barroom favorite singalong, with Chuck and Dave trading off the verses. Leavell first joined The Stones as a touring keyboardist/musical director in 1982, with the band hanging onto him ever since.

Chuck Leavell’s sit-in wasn’t the only highlight of Tuesday’s show. Following the lengthy main set, Dave Matthews returned to the stage solo for the first “Baby Blue” since December 14th, 2012 (a 782 show gap), per DMB Almanac. The rest of the band then rejoined their leader to close out the night with “Two Step”.

The band’s tour rolls on to Orange Beach, AL for a show tonight, July 26th, at The Amphitheater at The Wharf. For tickets and a full list of tour dates visit DMB’s website.
