Judas Priest Replaces Ozzy Osbourne On Power Trip Lineup

28

Judas Priest will serve as one of the headliners for the inaugural Power Trip festival, taking over the slot vacated by Ozzy Osbourne earlier this week. The performance at the Goldenvoice-produced metal megafest in Indio, CA would have marked Ozzy’s first full concert in five years.

Judas Priest will perform on the middle day of Power Trip, October 7th, in addition to AC/DC. The all-headliner festival at the Empire Polo Club (home of Coachella) also includes Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden (10/6) along with Metallica and Tool (10/8).

Ozzy announced his cancelation earlier this week, citing the health concerns that have kept him off the road for years.

“Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed.” He went on to add, “The band that will be replacing me on Power Trip will be announced shortly. They are personal friends of mine and I can promise that you will not be disappointed.”

The Prince of Darkness had announced his retirement from touring back in February, stating that his body could no longer handle the rigors of the road. In that announcement, however, he left the back door open for future performances by writing, “My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.” The following month, Power Trip revealed its inaugural lineup with Ozzy Osborne.

This isn’t the first time Goldenvoice has been tasked with finding a last-second replacement. Following a disastrous performance at weekend one of Coachella, Frank Ocean abdicated his headlining throne with just days to go until the second weekend. In his place, Goldenvoice cobbled together a split doubleheader consisting of a Blink-182 reunion set and an acclaimed performance by the EDM triumvirate of SkrillexFred Again.., and Four Tet.
